Capt Philip Woodson, Sr.

Obituary, Richmond Enquirer, Richmond, VA

Departed this life on the 24th January, 1846, at his residence, "Allen's Creek," Hanover county, Captain Philip Woodson, Sr., in the seventy-ninth year of his age. He was confied to his languishing bed and sick room about two months previous to his dissolution, during all of which time he was never heard to complain, but without a murmur, he patiently and with Christian resignation, awaited the hour of his departure from time to eternity.

He died, perfectly in his senses, and without a struggle, fully resigned, assuring his family and friends that his faith and reliance on his Savior had disarmed death of all his terrors, and that his hope for a blissful immortality beyond the grave, was bright, firm and unshaken. For about fifteen years he was a zealous, devoted and warm-hearted Christian. He attached himself to the Baptist Church and lived and died one of its most consistent members.

Of the deceased it may be truly said, no one was ever heard to utter a word of harm, no, not one; for he was beloved by all who knew him.

He has left behind him, to mourn over her irreparable loss, an aged and afflicted partner, with whom he lived in perfect connubial peace and bliss for nearly fifty-six years, and to whom he said, a short time before he died, it would not be long before she would follow him, and that they would be again united in Heaven.

"Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord; yea, they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."

This is a verbatim account, however I added paragraphs - Lisa Allison Albert
