Capt Philip Woodson, Sr.

Obituary, The Huntsville Democrat, Huntsville, AL, 4 Feb 1846

We are pained to learn by a letter from Richmond the death of our venerable father, Capt. Philip Woodson, who departed this life at his residence, "Allen's Creek" in Hanover county, Virginia, in the seventy-ninth year of his age.

The writer of the letter announcing this sad dispensation states that he was confined for about two months previous to his death, and gradually declined until he expired, without a struggle. His disease did not appear to be a painful one. He never complained, but appeared all patience and resignation. When asked if he had not rather recover, he replied he had no choice, but preferred that his Heavenly Father's will should be done.

For near twenty years, we blieve, he has been a member of the Baptist Church. He was a native of Goochland county where, on the banks of the James River, he passed the prime of his life. He was a plain man, and his deportment through life was truly that of a Virginian of the olden time.

He departed this life on Saturday, January 24, 1846.

This is a verbatim account, however I added paragraphs - Lisa Allison Albert
